In 1993 she made her Broadway debut with Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was You've Got Mail. The role in The Lady of The Lake is her greatest breakthrough, bringing an award for her performance, the Tony Award in addition to critical acclaim for her role. Later that year, as Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy for ABC, she gained greater recognition. The actress is also a renowned performer and has published an extended version of her play. In her role as an activist, she is a tireless advocate in the cause of LGBT equality.
